How to Choose a TV Box for IPTV

The TV box market offers wildly different devices at the same price, and some of the numbers on the box do not reflect what is inside. For IPTV the list of things worth checking is short; the rest is noise.

What cheap boxes share
On no-name boxes the memory and storage printed on the label are often lower in reality. The second problem is certification: instead of Google Play you get the manufacturer's own store, and current players are not in it. The third is updates — these devices stop receiving software after about a year.
A short list by budget
- Tight budget: a Fire TV Stick 4K or a Mi Box S — both do the job.
- Middle: an Android TV certified box with 4 GB of memory.
- Top: the NVIDIA Shield — on long lists and in 4K the difference is visible.
- Purpose-built: the Formuler Z series, with its own interface.
Check your television's HDMI version as well. 4K at 60 Hz needs HDMI 2.0; on older sets the box may output 4K while the screen drops to 30 Hz.
