Xiaomi Mi Box memory limit against list size

The Xiaomi Mi Box S and Mi TV Stick are the first choice for households keeping the cost down. They are adequate for IPTV, but they have a limit, and that limit shows up precisely at the size of this channel list.

The limit is memory

The Mi Box S has 2 GB of memory and the Mi TV Stick 1 GB. Load a 17,000-channel list and the player takes most of that, at which point scrolling starts to stutter. The device is not faulty; it is working at the edge of its capacity.

Four things that give the box room

  • Hide the country groups you never watch — as the list shrinks, the memory load falls directly.
  • Build a favourites list and move daily use there; open the full list only when searching.
  • Remove apps you do not use; half of the 8 GB storage belongs to the system.
  • Clear the player's cache once a month.

Mi TV Stick or Mi Box S?

The Stick is cheaper but has 1 GB of memory, a Full HD ceiling and no Ethernet port. The Mi Box S adds 4K support and Ethernet. For IPTV the price difference repays itself easily — the Ethernet port especially.

Google Play is open on both, so no sideloading is needed. The Mi Box S remote has no number keys; if you are used to switching by channel number, you will be using the app's search instead.
