Fibre coverage and IPTV setup in Italy

The only variable in an Italian IPTV setup is the connection, and in this country the connection changes by city. The difference between Milan and a small southern town is enough to make the same package feel like two different services.

Infrastructure by region

Southern citiesFTTC30 - 200 MbitFull HD is fine

FTTC versus FTTH

Most packages sold as "fibre" in Italy are in fact FTTC: the fibre reaches the street cabinet and copper carries it the rest of the way. The further the house is from the cabinet, the lower the speed. What matters is the measured speed, not the one in the contract — a test at the address before you set anything up shows the difference.

Serie A and the Süper Lig together

This is a common pattern for a Turkish family living in Italy: both Serie A and the Süper Lig are followed, and on most weekends the fixtures land close together. Two separate favourites lists and marking the kick-offs in the guide ends the channel hunting across the weekend.

  1. 01Measure the real speedRun the test on the device in the evening. It should be above 10 Mbit for Full HD and 25 Mbit for 4K.
  2. 02Set up the deviceDirectly on Android TV sets, with a small box on the others. Either route takes a few minutes.
  3. 03Make two lists for two leaguesCollect the Turkish channels in one list and the Italian sports channels in another.
  4. 04Note the time differenceItaly is an hour behind Turkey. Both sides keep their usual pattern, but it is still worth rechecking at the end of March and October.

Some Italian operators' modems do not prioritise streaming traffic by default. If the modem settings offer QoS or traffic prioritisation, moving video to the top makes a difference in the evening.
